Reflections for Anya’s Thirty-Fifth Month

my scruffy little girl

You are just one month shy of your 3rd birthday! This month, you started school and I find it hard to believe that it’s only been a month. It wasn’t easy at first. There was quite a lot of screaming and crying in the first couple of days, but slowly you got used to it. Now you skip off to school happily and when you come back, you sing songs that you have learnt, tell us about eating your food (and your friend’s food) and talk about your friends. I’m glad that you’re liking school so much and it’s doing you a lot of good in terms of your social skills which is what we were hoping for.

Another big event for you this month is becoming toilet-trained! It happened a few days after you started school and since then you have been very good about going to the toilet. You are still in a diaper at night but I’m happy to be saving lots of money on the daytime diapers. It’s just another milestone that reminds me how quickly you are growing up.

We celebrated Chinese New Year this month and you got to meet up with your cousins and friends. For now at least, you still willingly hand me your ang pows. We also went to the River Hongbao where you had fun on the old school amusement park rides. It was during CNY that we saw you interacting a lot more with the other kids. You can be a little bossy and you like to issue instructions to the younger ones. But social gatherings are more interesting for you now!

This month, we went to watch ‘The Tiger Who Came to Tea’ and ‘Stick Man’ which were both enjoyable. You went to the National Museum with your cousins and also had your first swimming class with them but that requires a whole other post. These days, you are less prone to throwing tantrums and melting down when you’re tired. Does this mean the Terrible Twos be over soon?

You are going to be 3 next month, my dear little girl who talks and sings all the time. I don’t want you to grow up so quickly! Just remember that I love you more with every passing day and that I am always here for you.
