Anya received the Charlie and Lola pop-up book ‘I Am Not Sleepy and I Will Not Go To Bed’ for Christmas last year and she loves it. So I decided to bring her to catch Charlie and Lola’s Best Bestest Play and it was so much fun!
The story of Charlie trying to get Lola to tidy up her room and to go to bed was performed in a very entertaining manner through the use of puppetry, catchy music and special little touches such as bubbles and paper floating down from the ceiling. It is so easy for young children to relate to how Lola gets distracted very easily even though she’s supposed to be tidying up the mess in her room and how she simply doesn’t want to go to sleep and keeps trying to find excuses not to.
There’s a lot of cute Charlie and Lola merchandise for sale before/ after the show and I was very tempted to buy something. They have backpacks, tote bags, wooden puppets, wooden play sets, magnets, sticker books, mugs and T-shirts. But when I asked Anya if she wanted anything, she said ‘No…’ and saved me a bunch of money! Yay.
Charlie and Lola’s Best Bestest Play is on at the DBS Arts Centre until 10 June.
