We went to watch The Cat in the Hat on Tuesday morning and, on the whole, it was quite enjoyable. We read the book quite often so Anya was looking forward to the show and she really liked the first bit where the Cat was trying to balance many different things at the same time.
But the show got a little draggy when Thing 1 and Thing 2 appeared and started trashing the house. The kids in the audience got somewhat restless and didn’t laugh as much. I guessed they had to drag it out a little so that the show wouldn’t be too short. The performance was only about 40 minutes long.
I liked that the actors were very expressive and energetic and I thought the cartoonish set and props were really faithful to the book. The music during the bits with Thing 1 and Thing 2 was a bit sinister-sounding and could have been more upbeat. But like I said, it was a generally decent performance.
The Cat in the Hat is on at DBS Arts Centre – Home of SRT until 30 September 2012.
