Anya was Doctor for a Day last Saturday at Mt Elizabeth Novena! All proceeds for the event went towards a Christmas party for the underprivileged. They ran this programme quite a few times this year and the slots get snapped up incredibly quickly so I was really happy to get a slot for her for the last run of the year.
I loved the child-sized pink scrubs they had for the kids and the name tags. I think the little details like these are what make the experience extra special for the kids. They started at a briefing room where they sanitised their hands in 7 steps. Then it was off to learn about what general practitioners (GP) do.
The next stop was the A&E where the kids put plasters and bandages on themselves before heading to the nursery. The kids went EWW! when they had to change ‘dirty’ diapers for the babies and feed them.
The operating theatre was Anya’s favourite station. They sanitised their hands again, put on gloves and surgical masks, and then operated on Mr Puff, a ‘man’ whose lungs were in a terrible condition because of all the smoking he did.
Finally, it was time for their graduation! The group had a photo taken and the photo was printed on the spot for us to keep. Such a nice touch! Anya was really pleased to get a certificate, a hospital journal and a pink stethoscope.
On the whole, the programme was really fun and I think she enjoyed herself. Read about her experience as a Dentist for a Day here. Those who are interested in the Doctor for a Day programme should ‘like’ the Mount Elizabeth Novena Facebook page to be updated on their next run.
