Our 9th Wedding Anniversary

We were in Nepal last week and celebrated our 9th wedding anniversary there. It was a VERY memorable anniversary and not entirely in a good way. We had a nice dinner at Moondance in Pokhara the night before and even joked that it could count as our anniversary dinner since we might be very tired after getting back to Kathmandu the next day.

So on the day of our 9th wedding anniversary, we woke up at 4.30am and a cab took us to Sarangkot to view the sun rising over Annapurna. You can trek up, of course, but we are lazy people. There was a free viewing area but some enterprising locals were offering an elevated view with seats and free hot ginger tea for just 100 rupees so we opted for that instead.

It was very cold and somewhat cloudy but still an awesome experience. The locals told us that we were lucky because it had been even cloudier the days prior to that. We had quite a good view of the sunrise but the clouds moved in very quickly after that.

After getting back to the Lakeside area of Pokhara, we had breakfast at the hotel and spent some time packing before heading out to explore the area on bikes. We cycled to the dam and the waterfront, stopping whenever we felt like it and randomly eating and buying things.

I had been wanting to try the fried snacks I see everywhere but Adrian was a bit paranoid about the hygiene level. He has not gotten over the fact that I suffered bad food poisoning during our honeymoon in Bali. We passed a stall that looked quite decent so we had some anyway!

After checking out of our rooms, we grabbed lunch at Black & White Cafe where I had the most amazingly delicious vegetarian Dal Bhat set ever! It was so good! We love Dal Bhat so much that we had it four days in a row while we were there and for me, that one was the best.

Sadly though, things went downhill after that wondrous hot meal. We got to the airport and were told we could not check in for our 2.15pm flight because there were four flights before ours that were delayed due to bad weather. Our options were to cancel our flight and get a refund or wait until 4pm for an update on the situation. The plane had to leave Kathmandu by 4pm so that we can get out of Pokhara by 4.30pm. They don’t fly once it’s dark.

After waiting 3 hours, we were told that the plane was boarding people at Kathmandu so we could check in our luggage and get our boarding passes. We were so happy! But just 5 minutes later, we were informed that our flight (and all the other flights after that) was canceled due to air traffic!

Adrian immediately got on the phone and asked our hotel to arrange a car and driver for us. We were driven to Kathmandu and it took us 6 hours, in the dark, and on very crappy and dangerous roads.

So it was a really memorable anniversary for us and although those 6 hours on the road were terrible, we had each other and I’m thankful for our driver who drove very cautiously and for the man at our hotel who cooked two bowls of hot noodles for us when we arrived cold and hungry.

Here’s hoping our 10th wedding anniversary will be unforgettable for good reasons!

8th Anniversary Dinner at Ocean Restaurant

We celebrated our 8th anniversary last Tuesday with dinner at Ocean Restaurant by Cat Cora. Adrian didn’t tell me where he was taking me for dinner so it was a pleasant surprise! I guess he knows me very well; I really enjoyed being able to sit in front of the giant tank for dinner.

The food at Ocean Restaurant is very good, but not spectacular. The portions are also quite small for the prices. I suppose people go mainly for the view and the experience! The service is very decent though. When Adrian was making reservations, they asked if it was for a special occasion and served us a celebratory slice of cake after we were done with our food. The servers were attentive and made sure we were comfortable.

On the whole, it was a great way to celebrate our 8th anniversary. Looking forward to many, many more years of love and laughter!

Anniversary Dinner at Kesuma

Our 7th wedding anniversary is definitely our most memorable so far. We rode to Borobudur on our rented motorbike and it took us one and a half hours each way. On the way back, I carried a keropok tin with me. I’m probably the only person in the world to request for, and receive, a keropok tin for an anniversary gift!

After our morning at the amazing Borobudur, we had a wonderful massage at the hotel spa and then dinner at Kesuma. Kesuma is a family restaurant serving traditional Javanese cuisine prepared with fresh local ingredients.

Our dinner was superb. I loved my sup udung, an Indonesian-style tom yum soup, and I drank it to the last drop. Adrian’s lumpia isi ayam (chicken spring roll) sounded ordinary but was tasty. Our main courses were very flavourful. Adrian had the ayam kesuma (chicken roasted with ginger, chili, cashew nuts and pineapple) and I had the kakap bumbu bali (snapper fillet roasted in a spicy sauce with Balinese bumbu genap besar spices). They were both delicious.

Anniversary Dinner at Todai

We dumped the kids at my mum’s and went to celebrate our anniversary at Todai! It’s not a particularly romantic place, I know, but we are practical people and I wanted oysters! There were so many different things to eat that it made my head spin. I stuffed myself with oysters and desserts,  Adrian had a good time feasting on the snow crab legs and we were both thoroughly happy!

It’s been 5 years!!

It’s our 5th anniversary! Can’t believe we’ve been married for 5 years! It’s been a great journey! I usually post pictures from the church wedding when it’s our anniversary so here are some pictures just to relive the memories of our wedding dinner:

Look how slim I was 5 years ago!! Where has my tiny waist gone?? Boohoohoo!

Adrian was singing and walking towards me which was why I was standing on my own

Cheers to 5 happy years and many, many more to come! :)

We are 3!

It’s our third wedding anniversary today! We’ve known each other for 9 years and first started dating 6 years ago. It’s been a really wonderful 3 years of marriage and I’m very happy. :) Since I’m leaving for New Zealand this evening, we celebrated last night with dinner at Margarita’s at Dempsey. We were thinking of going somewhere posh but decided we just wanted to be comfortable and have yummy food. We had their stuffed jalapeños for starters and those little devils took their revenge on us this morning! Too bad I couldn’t have a margarita or a sangria! We also had dessert at Ben & Jerry’s and came home bursting at the seams with food. By our next anniversary, it won’t just be the two of us! :)

I think we should commemorate the occasion with matching hairstyles:

Hahaha! I think I look better with an afro than he does! ;)
