Tasmania Day 3 – Freycinet National Park, Bay of Fires

We packed quite a bit of sightseeing and driving into Day 3. After breakfast (cooked by the husband using the grill on the side of our camper van), we walked up to see the breathtaking view of Wineglass Bay in Freycinet National Park. There are several walks of varying difficulties that can be attempted and ours was probably the easiest one.

We popped by Cape Tourville Lighthouse before driving to Bicheno for some lunch. I was starving and hoping to sit down to a proper seafood meal, but since we arrived after 2pm, most of the restaurants were no longer serving lunch so we got some fish & chips to go.

Finally, we made our way to St. Helens to explore the Bay of Fires which is famous for the dramatic orange-hued granite rocks.

Tasmania Day 2 – Port Arthur

On our second day in Tasmania, we headed to Jackman and McRoss for breakfast before driving by Cascade Brewery just to check out their impressive facade. We also made a quick stop at Sullivan’s Cove for some whisky-tasting. One of their French Oak casks was voted the World’s Best Single Malt Whisky at the 2014 World Whisky Awards.

After that, it was back to the airport to return our rental car and pick up our Maui camper van. We were going to stay in a not-so-little van for most of our time in Tasmania. To be honest, I was quite concerned about having to use the toilet in our campervan! We headed to Port Arthur and then drove to our first campsite.

Port Arthur is an amazing place to visit and there’s so much to see and explore there. It is one of 11 Australian convict sites inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Tasmania Day 1 – MONA

For our 10th Anniversary this year, we decided on a trip to Tasmania. I was really looking forward to the trip after such a busy time at work and with the kids.

We landed in Hobart, collected our rental, then headed straight for MONA. MONA is utterly provocative, somewhat disturbing, and completely fascinating. Definitely a must visit in Tasmania.

We took some photos outside MONA because it was such a gloriously beautiful day. And so lovely and cool too.

After MONA, we drove to Hadley’s Orient Hotel where we were going to stay for one night before collecting our camper van the next day. We walked down to Franklin Wharf for some dinner before heading back to the hotel for some well-deserved rest!

So Much Fun at LEGOLAND Hotel Malaysia!

Last month, we drove over the Causeway and checked ourselves into LEGOLAND Hotel. We didn’t tell the kids that we were headed there and once it came into view, they were beside themselves in excitement! We stayed here in December 2013 and since then, the kids have been asking to come back.

While we busied ourselves with checking in, the kids were playing to their hearts’ content in the pirate ship and castle play areas in the lobby. The LEGO play areas are such a good idea because the kids are happily occupied while the parents handle the boring task of getting the room keys.

During our last visit, we stayed at the Adventure themed room so we decided to try out the Kingdom themed room this time around. I just love all the themed LEGO features in the room and the kids cannot get enough of their bunk beds and TV and LEGO set to play with. If not for the fact that the theme park is an even bigger draw, we may never be able to get them out of the room!

Of course, we adults also appreciate having a huge bed that we don’t need to share with the kids and our own TV. For dinner, after a long day at both the water and theme parks, we ordered room service and chilled out in front of our respective TV sets before having a good night’s sleep.

Special mention goes to the LEGOLAND Hotel themed lifts. Whenever we take the lifts up or down, the kids start dancing up a storm when the disco lights and music come on. Even the adults can’t help grooving to the beat!

Breakfast in the LEGOLAND Hotel Bricks Family Restaurant is a decent affair and there is a good variety of food available from the typical continental breakfast sort of bread, eggs and sausages, to nasi lemak for those who prefer something local. It can get crowded and a queue may form during the busiest period in the morning but the kids will be kept entertained by the large foam bricks in the area just outside the restaurant.

It just makes perfect sense to stay at LEGOLAND Hotel when you are visiting the theme park and water park so that the kids can play all afternoon, check into the hotel and have a wee nap, continue playing their heart out, and then have a good night’s rest without anyone having to drive or take the bus all the way back to Singapore after a long tiring day. Can’t wait to come back again and the next time, we’ll probably book the Pirate themed room!

Halloween Brick-or Trick Party Nights at LEGOLAND Malaysia

We were in LEGOLAND Malaysia a couple of weekends ago and it was the start of their Halloween Brick-or-Treat Party Nights. Since we were also staying at LEGOLAND hotel, the best part was the extended opening time. Every Friday and Saturday from now to 31 October, the Park will be open until 8.30pm so the kids can play for an even longer time.

Look out for the LEGO Giant Pumpkin and giant LEGO White Ghost at The Beginning (quite hard to miss!) and grab some scary pictures with the Halloween LEGO mascots, including the newest monster – Frankenstein! The kids were super excited to see the mascots and we managed to get pictures with Frankenstein, Green Witch and Lord Vampyre.

There are live shows at Castle stage at specific show times throughout the day as well as LEGO building activities. The kids loved the face-painting bit and there was a queue of eager children (and some adults) waiting for their turn to get their face or hand painted.

The Dark Knight Takes Over City Square Mall

Adam loves superheroes and enjoys zipping around in a cape. His favourite superheroes are Batman and Superman and he was so excited to watch The Dark Knight in action and to take a photo with him at City Square Mall earlier today! He even wore a Batman cap, t-shirt and shorts for this special encounter with The Dark Knight.

The action-packed live show wowed the crowd, especially when The Dark Knight made a grand entrance by rappelling down from the 4th floor. Definitely not something you see in your typical mall live show! The Dark Knight saved the day by making short work of Joker’s henchmen and thwarting the Joker’s evil plans before taking some time to pose for photos with the little fans.

There is a showcase of DC Super Heroes costumes on display and kids can also show off their superhero skills by taking part in the DC Comics Justice League Adventure obstacle course. Other activities include hand and face-painting and Batman mask-making. Adam had a lot of fun completing the obstacles and was very proud of the Batman logo painted on his hand.

Sentosa – The State of Fun!

There are a few long weekends and some other public holidays coming up! I find short overseas trips terribly tiring though and always feel like I need a holiday after my holiday. I’d much rather hop over to Sentosa for a fun day of activities or for a staycation. There’s so much to do there these days!

During the June holidays, we visited Sentosa with the Play 3 FUN Pass that gave us the option of choosing 3 out of 20 exciting attractions. At S$44 for adults and S$39 for kids, it’s a real steal, especially if you pick S.E.A. Aquarium as one of your choices because a ticket for a Singapore resident adult is usually S$28. We decided to visit S.E.A. Aquarium, Skyline Luge and Gogreen Segway. That’s a total value of more than S$70!

We bought tickets separately for our session at Wavehouse and for the Wings of Time performance but they are both options that you can choose under the Play 3 FUN Pass. The kids had such a wonderful time that day and we were on Sentosa for more than 10 hours. I thought they would be too exhausted by the time we sat down for the Wings of Time performance, but they really enjoyed the laser show, water display, and the fireworks and it was a brilliant way to end our day of fun on Sentosa.
