Hello 2015!

Happy New Year

I posted this Baby Blues comic strip on New Year’s Day 2012, way before we even expected that we would eventually have three kids. And this is what our family looks like now!

2014 was a pretty great year. Adam started school and got along fine with his friends. He had his first mini performance in school and took it very seriously. I was so proud to see him sing and dance to two short songs with the rest of his class. Anya was featured in Elly’s CNY collection and we were delighted that she got to pose for one of our favourite brands. She also performed in her first school concert at UCC and I’m sure I’ll be crying buckets when it’s her graduation concert this year!

The kids have stretched out quite a bit and Adam looks a lot less babyish now. He also has practically no front teeth after damaging his teeth last year. I still feel sad whenever I see the gaping holes but I know his adult teeth will eventually come in. He stayed in hospital a couple of nights for some bites that got infected and caused his legs to swell up! Anya decided to chop off her lovely long hair and I’m still not used to it but she seems pretty happy with her shorter do.

We welcomed Baby David in January and he’s without a doubt my most difficult baby ever. He doesn’t nap well and he’s generally quite grouchy and fussy. We had to put him in infantcare and he’s doing well there and that’s a load off my mind. He’s a lot more smiley now and on the verge of walking. I’m terribly fond of him and so glad I still have a baby to squish since the other two are growing up so quickly!

We managed to travel a bit this year. We took David and Anya to Ho Chi Minh City, then all three kids to Taipei with the help of my mum and aunt. After that was Deborah’s wedding in Penang in April where Anya was a flower girl for the first time. Adrian and I went to Perth without the kids before I returned to work, then we took the older two to Port Dickson over National Day. We went to Nepal sans kids for our 9th wedding anniversary and then it was just us with all 3 kids in Phuket! Phew!

Blogwise, we have been so lucky to review many different products, services and events! I really enjoy taking the kids to new places and letting them try new experiences, so it’s a real blessing that we sometimes get given stuff and get invited to places and performances. It’s definitely not something I take for granted!

I made four new year’s resolutions at the start of 2014 and kept about 3.5 of them. I took a ukulele crash course, got back in circus arts and I tried very hard to be a good wife and mother. There’s still so much room for improvement though. So for 2015, I want to keep trying to be the best wife and mum that I can be and I think I need to spend less time on my phone and computer! With three kids, I don’t want to make any overambitious resolutions. I want to learn another language and how to crochet but I think we’ll take it one day at a time.

2014 was a really good year for us and I hope that 2015 will continue to be spectacular!

Hello 2014!

Happy New Year

2014 is going to be such an exciting year! Here are my resolutions for the year:

  1. Be the best wife and mother for my family that I can be: I’m currently reading Megan Breedlove’s Well Done, Good & Faithful Mummy to help me look to God to find fulfillment in my role as a mother.
  2. Learn an instrument: something simple, maybe the ukelele?
  3. Learn a new language: I’m thinking Bahasa Melayu or Korean, but at the very least I should revise what little Japanese I know!
  4. Get back into Circus Arts: probably by joining Family Circus with Anya.

I think four resolutions are enough to focus on for the year ahead. Have a happy new year! :)

A Look Back at 2013

Remarkable

The family is asleep and I’m the only one who’s still up and about so I’m spending some time in the last hour to reflect on the year that has zoomed by. It’s been a wonderful year as a family and we had so much fun together. I never thought having two kids could be so amazing. It’s all terribly tiring though so I remind myself that the days are long but the years are short.

Anya started nursery this year and along the way became enamoured of 3Ps: princesses, pink and purple. She’s really into dressing up and just wants to wear big, fluffy dresses and her tiara all the time. She has also turned into a 4-year-old teenager and can get ridiculously angsty over the smallest things. It’s not always easy to manage. She started inline skating and has become more confident in performing in school and at her piano classes. A highlight of the year for her was doing a photo shoot for Elly’s CNY collection!

Adam has developed his own personality and loves to talk non-stop. He fights a lot with his sister but has the sweetest temperament except when he needs milk. He started gym classes this year but it’s hard to imagine he’s going to start school for real soon! This year hasn’t been the best for Adam physically. He damaged his teeth in an accident and visited the hospital for bronchiolitis and for a mysterious leg injury. It’s been a lot of heartache for me because he’s such a mummy’s boy.

We traveled quite a bit this year. A few trips to Malaysia to visit Legoland, London, Edinburgh, Paris, Bangkok (without the kids), and Hong Kong. I know we are blessed to be able to bring the kids to all these exciting places and it’s not something we take for granted. We have big plans for next year and many trips lined up and I hope everything works out well.

We didn’t do any ballroom dancing but Adrian and I took part in a run together for the first (and probably last) time! I’m glad he was willing to humour me by accompanying me for the Green Corridor run. He started playing tennis again and I tried Circus Aerial Arts classes. I enjoyed myself so much but had to take a break from it because we were blessed with another baby! That’s definitely the biggest surprise of the year for us. We are looking forward to welcoming Baby No. 3 in a few weeks’ time and I’m sure it’s going to be epic trying to raise three little ones.

Goodbye 2013! You were fabulous but I know 2014 is going to be legen..(wait for it!)..dary!

Tiong Bahru Bakery

I’d been wanting to drop by Tiong Bahru Bakery for a while now but never got the chance. We had breakfast there on New Year’s Day and the food was very decent. Our favourite item that day was the ham & cheese focaccia. Even though it was supposed to be mine, the other two happily helped themselves to it. Will probably go to the one at Raffles City in future because it’s really not easy to find parking there!

Happy New Year!

The first post of the year! We gathered at Nav’s place on New Year’s Eve and ushered in the new year with some nice wine. I made jelly hearts cheesecake again but forgot to take a proper picture so the only one is taken with my phone.

Goodbye 2012!

2012 was a pretty good year! I usually do a recap by answering a bunch of questions on a New Year’s Eve meme but this time I’m gonna try to sum it up in a few paragraphs.

There was quite a baby boom this year. Celia gave birth to Lincoln (he’s technically my cousin even though I’m a million years older than he is), Qi to Joel, Lena to Michelle, Yun to Reuben and Xin to Aaron. Also expecting lots of babies in 2013! As we get older, we are attending fewer weddings. This year, my ex-student Pam got married!

Anya started school in 2012 and she really grew up a lot. She’s a lot taller and much more sociable. She started swimming lessons with the cousins under Uncle Eugene, music classes at Our Music Studio and Chinese classes at Berries. She’s a wonderful older sis and she says the funniest things.

Adam grew and changed so much in 2012. At the start of the year, he was just a 5-month-old baby. Now he’s walking, climbing, and chasing his sister around and he’s learning to talk and saying all sorts of things. He’s a really cheeky toddler and still very attached to his mummy.

I started the year on maternity leave and only went back to work in March when Adam was 7 months old. It was fun being a temporary SAHM for those few months and I enjoyed the opportunity of being a parent volunteer at Anya’s school. I really missed being able to spend so much time with the kids after I went back to work but things were really good at work so it wasn’t too bad.

We travelled quite a bit in 2012. We went to Bali in January with Adrian’s colleagues and in February I went to New York with Debs. Then it was Penang in March with my friends (and without Adam). Adrian and I went to Lombok in June without the kids. We had a family holiday in Malacca with my colleagues in October. Adrian and I went to Yogyakarta in November and finally we had a 9-day Malaysia road trip with the Lobos in December. On his own, Adrian went to Bangkok and went skiing in Australia.

2012 was a good year for the blog and I’m very thankful for all the wonderful opportunities that came our way because of this blog. I got to meet many new people, mostly other blogger mums, and I’m happy to know that there are quite a few people who like to read about our little family and the things we get up to.

God was really good to us in 2012 and I know He is good all the time and will continue to bless us in 2013!
