Reflections for Anya’s Tenth Month

You are ten months old today!

This month, you stayed at the Ah Ma’s place while we were busy cleaning and unpacking stuff in the new place. After that, it was party after party for you! Housewarming parties, Christmas parties, etc. You have so many new toys/ books/ clothes! Then you ended up in hospital. :( That was not pleasant at all! We had to cancel our trip to KL because of that so you didn’t get to sit on a plane last year. You saw fireworks for the first time on New Year’s Day and went up to the Flyer with your Ah Ma and Gong Gong so that was the only ‘flying’ you got to do.

Your range of tricks now includes putting both your hands on your head whenever we say “高高” or “head” and one hand on your ear (like you’re answering the phone) when we say “hello?”. You can also do “恭喜恭喜” with your hands clasped together so you’ll all set for Chinese New Year! I’m quite proud of the fact that I taught you to differentiate between and do the appropriate actions for the ‘clap your hands’ and ‘stamp your feet’ verses of ‘If You’re Happy and You Know It’. Still trying to confirm if you truly understand ‘拍拍手’ as ‘clap your hands’! Also taught you to pucker up your lips and make kissing sounds but you’ve learnt that you can make the same sound just by smacking your lips so now you skip the puckering up bit entirely. You bop to music (1, 2, cha cha cha, 3, 4, cha cha cha!) and pretend to sleep when asked to. You are quite happy to give big sloppy kisses on demand and wave hello/ goodbye quite nicely.

You’ve been eating some grown-up food and seem to enjoy what you eat. Fortunately, you have not shown allergic reactions to any food. You can be quite demanding and I’m a little horrified by how loudly you shout when you want something. You are also rather destructive and enjoy knocking stacked-up toys over. We are trying our best to discipline you but you’re definitely being spoilt by your grandparents so we have to be the bad guys!

You’ve been putting on weight steadily although you lost some after your bout of stomach flu. Your hair is growing too and you’re looking more fluffy-headed everyday. Haven’t seen any new teeth yet but you’re doing well with the two that you have. Your feet are still tiny though!

My sweet little Anya Papaya, I’m so glad I have you in my life. I look forward to the rest of the time with you but I already miss these ten months that have passed. Just know this: you are loved!
